Celtic Silver Earring or Pendant Amulet,  circa 2nd to 1st century BC! making this just over 2,000 years old!. Provenance: Ex. German private collection.

Very rare authentic Celtic Druid Pagan Axe votive Silver Earring with axe-shaped pendant in extremely fine condition.

Danubian Celtic, Later La Tène Period, The La Tène people are often referred to as the Pan-European Celts; but they were not necessarily people who had migrated from western Europe on the Atlantic. Early Greek writers such as Herodotus kept the designation Celt for people north of the English Channel. But later writers used the same term interchangeably with Gauls, referring to the warlike barbarian trading groups in central Europe. Confusion about the name "Celt" is mainly the fault of Roman and Greek writers concerning these cultural groups.

Solid round silver hoop with diamond-shape cross section and overlapping and then spirally coiled around the hoop terminals, carrying a large silver amulet pendant in the form of an axe, beautifully decorated with circle and dot motifs and incised lines.

Measuring 5.7 cm in height and 3.6 cm width. Completely intact, rare and in extremely fine condition. Museum quality example with exquisite detail
